Tennis Moods Style: Dressed for Grand Slam Success - Part III

On June 20th, London's Kensington Rooftop Gardens were once again home to a fabulous party to mark the 127th edition of Wimbledon. WTA's leading ladies dressed up for a night to remember, a night dedicated to fashion, beauty and tennis. Burberry was the star brand of the gala, with top names such as Serena Williams, Maria Sharapova and Laura Robson, all wearing signature gowns. I liked Serena's dress, but I was even more impressed by her styling, as the American tops my best dressed list. It was a close call though, as Brit Anne Keothawong almost stole the show with her stunning white colourblocker Antonio Berardi gown. That dress is drop dead gorgeous, but overall, I liked Serena's look more.
Although some played it safe, going with the regular lbd, the young generation showed courage and class, with both Heather Watson and American Sloane Stephens looking stunning in vibrant yellow mini frocks.
Sara Errani and Angelique Kerber provided two sad examples of how not to dress on such a glamorous occasion. They wore boring and uninspired outfits.

SERENA WILLIAMS stole the show in a stunning white Burberry London dress to which she accessorised a turquoise clutch. The American is my pick for the 'Best Dressed' award.
ANNE KEOTHAVONG gave Serena a run for her money wearing a stunning white colourblocker Antonio Berardi gown. Anne took a risk and it paid off. I totally loved the dress. It was the highlight of the night.
MARIA SHARAPOVA rocked the red carpet in a Burberry Prorsum pre-fall 2013 dress with Charlotte Olympia accessories.
ANA IVANOVIC remained faithful to designer Matthew Williamson.
Always edgy, VICTORIA AZARENKA opted for a lbd which she spiced up with a golden belt and a spiky pair of shoes.
A much too blonde AGNIESZKA RADWANSKA also relied on the famous lbd. I love the accessories, the multicoloured shoes and the nude pink clutch.
ANASTASIA PAVLYUCHENKOVA looked rather scary in this oddly shaped lbd. The transparency is really not helping her, as her breasts seem mutilated. The make-up didn't work either, as it was ageing her tremendously.
Fashionista wannabe, JELENA JANKOVIC, pulled together a winning look, opting for a long coral gown. The Serbian resembled a Greek goddess.
DANIELA HANTUCHOVA wore a mini little white dress that showed off her gorgeous legs.
LAURA ROBSON looked sophisticated and chic in a emerald green Burberry Prorsum dress.
HEATHER WATSON was all smiles in this yellow Forever Unique lace dress.
Teen sensation, SLOANE STEPHENS, continued to show exquisite taste, opting for a courageous short yellow frock that perfectly complements her skin tone.
EUGENIE BOUCHARD turned heads in a sexy electric blue frock that showed off her great body.

BETHANIE MATTEK-SANDS always knows how to make an entrace. The American wore a completely crazy green&blue hairdo, plus the latest technology from Google, Google Glass, that had everyone talking. At least she kept it simple with her clothing, opting for a simple white long gown.

Tennis Moods Style: The 2012 Istanbul Fashion Week

At the end of a gruelling 2012, the best eight players in the world got to cap a magnificent season with a trip to the Season-Ending WTA Championships in Istanbul. For the second year running, the Turkish capital was host to a magnificent week of tennis, which saw Vika Azarenka, Maria Sharapova, Serena Williams, Aga Radwanska, Petra Kvitova, Angelique Kerber, Na Li, and Sara Errani battle it out for ultimate glory.
However, this week was not entirely about tennis. In addition to going head-to-head on the court, the WTA divas have also disputed the Best Dressed award, providing a veritable fashion runway at the Draw Ceremony on Sunday, October 21. It came down to the wire, but Serena once more outclassed Azarenka to restore her reign also in the fashion department. However, Victoria is making huge progresses lately, becoming one of the most consistently well-inspired fashionistas.

Victoria Azarenka (Belarus)
Probably the sharpest look at the Draw Ceremony was Victoria's who dazzled the audience in a form fitting black jumpsuit. The world number 1 showed plenty of class, styling her outfit perfectly with a slick ponytail and a pair of oversized earrings. Her on-court look was also inspired, with a plus for the dark grey - light yellow mix. Although she does not have her own Nike label, the Belorussian added the only bit of glamour to Nike's mainstream fall collection.

Maria Sharapova
If some dressed up, Maria Sharapova dressed down. The Russian, one of the most veritable fashionistas in the game, wore an angelic white mini dress, which she matched with oversized mustard blazer. Although the pieces are great and they create an exquisite look, I feel she should have stepped up a notch and wore something a bit more fancy. This was more of a day look, than a red carpet one. However, my main issue with Sharapova lately is her on-court attire. Most of the times, it is really boring and not flattering. I miss the creative queen of the tutus that ruled tennis fashion some years ago.

Serena Williams
Serena has been on fire since July and she capped the momentum in a femme fatale red mini dress. The big hairdo, the leopard shoes, everything was pure perfection as the stunning American stepped on the red carpet. She also looked flawless on court. The sleeveless polo and the peplum inspired skirt are cool, actual pieces that perfectly showcase the American's sexy curves.

Agnieszka Radwanska
Agnieszka Radwanska does not stand out on a regular basis, but the Pole proves to have an impeccable fashion taste with every appearance. Her princess dress is actually extremely current, transparency being one of the major trends at the moment. The nude pink colour is really cool, though the front of the design makes it resemble a night gown. Also, although sponsored by Lotto, the Pole has already found clothes that seem well-made, expensive and pleasantly looking. The fucsia-peach mix is a bit too intense for me though.

Petra Kvitova
Last year's titlist took a great decision when she opted for a red mini dress, which by the way looked stunning on her. The look was ruined by the ugly black sandals though. Plus, I am wary of the red-black mix, as it can be cheap and vulgar. Though I liked Azarenka's on court attire, I am really unimpressed by Petra's version. I find the floral print on a white pattern tacky and I think the only version that works is having it on a darker background, such as grey.

Sara Errani (Italy)
Hoping to make an impression at her first WTA Championships appearance, Sara Errani went over the top with a wedding-ish purple dress. Her long gown, though elegant, seems a bit too sophisticated for the event. She was similar Nike clothes with Azarenka, Kvitova and Na Li.

WTA Championships debutant, Angelique Kerber was hoping to steal the show in this black gown. However, as with Errani, she did not succeed. The same issue as the Italian, the dress is too elegant, too sophisticated for the event. Probably something more of a cocktail party dress would have worked better.

Na Li (China)
Na Li was another player to opt for a lbd. Though the dress is relatively boring, the styling is edgy with a huge plus for the big wristwatch. The nude platforms are a safe choice in this combination, although a more vibrant colour would have been a killer hit. The Chinese's on-court garments are relatively pretty dull and this one makes no exception. Taken from the same mainstream Nike fall collection, the top part is the blue version of Kvitova's attire.

Marion Bartoli (France)
Second alternative, Marion Bartoli was boho-chic in a lbd which she styled with a stunning black pair of high-heels ankle boots and a white shall. The Frenchwoman is proving to be a little fashionista as she reveals her upbeat personality at the Draw Ceremony in Istanbul.

Tennis Moods Style: Dressed for Grand Slam Success - Part II

On June 21st, London's Kensington Rooftop Gardens were once again home to a fabulous party to mark the 126th edition of Wimbledon. All WTA's brightest stars teamed up with the world's most prestigious designers hoping to make an impact as they walked through the red carpet. Continuing last year's tradition, Ana Ivanovic wore Matthew Williamson, Caroline Wozniacki remained faithful to Stella McCartney and Serena Williams chose Burberry.
While Sorana Cirstea, Ana Ivanovic, Jelena Jankovic, Venus Williams and Maria Sharapova all went for ivory gowns, the likes of Serena Williams, Elena Vesnina and Petra Kvitova made some big statements, opting for bold colors.

SORANA CIRSTEA showcased a fresh look, dressed in Alexander McQueen from head to toe.
ANA IVANOVIC continues to dazzle. She looked stunning in a sensational Matthew Williamson mini dress.
JELENA JANKOVIC produced another fashion faux pas wearing a cheap looking Vivienne Westwood tight dress.
NA LI was very doll-like in a silver Giles Deacon dress. Unfortunately though, the blue shoes with that horrible huge ribbon did not match the rest of the outfit.
World number 1, MARIA SHARAPOVA, chose to go overboard wearing an asymmetric sequin Antonio Berardi dress. She styled it with a pair of burgundy sandals and some matchy diamond earrings.
VENUS WILLIAMS wore an elegant Amanda Wakeley gown. Her not-so-sophisticated hairdo though, ruined the overall look.
AGNIESZKA RADWANSKA was top notch class wearing a sheer black Mulberry dress.
CAROLINE WOZNIACKI remained faithful to designer Stella McCartney, but failed to impress in this quite dull lbd.
SERENA WILLIAMS looked imperial in Burberry. The American stole the show in a great purple dressed styled with a pair of black sandals and some big silver accessories.
Russian ELENA VESNINA reproduced a royal look wearing a bright green long gown.
The defending Wimbledon champion, Czech PETRA KVITOVA, may have teamed up with fashion legend Alexander McQueen but her dress was ill-inspired. Although the colour choice is great, the emphasis on her hips is not at all flattering.

ANNE KEOTHAVONG was the epitome of elegance in an embroided dark green dress.
