300 Weeks of Greatness

He may have lost in the semis at the Shanghai Masters, but the result saw the world's greatest tennis player write another sensational page in the history book. On Monday, the Swiss will comprise a record breaking 300th week at the top of the ATP ranking.
In a year of incredible performances, Roger Federer has added to his impressive tally of achievements one that is by far a standout in his amazing career. It's not just the fact that he hold the number 1 spot for 300 weeks, it's more about how he succeeded to reclaim it and ultimately surpass Pete Sampras' 286 mark. In an Era of utter dominance from Djokovic and Nadal, Federer thought of an exquisite plan to ensure his return to the top of men's tennis. He extended his schedule, including tournaments he wouldn't play a few years ago, and, backed up by some excellent results, he built the perfect setting for a fairytale run at Wimbledon where he achieved his dream.
During these 300 weeks of greatness, the Swiss has won 11 Grand Slams, 15 Masters 1000 crowns, 3 ATP World Tour Championships, as well as 17 regular titles. He has compiled a 0.889 winning percentage with 417 wins and only 52 loses.
Federer now holds the record for most weeks at number 1 and is the second oldest player to top the rankings after Andre Agassi. He is seeking to maintain his position at the end of the season, a feat that would tie him with Sampras at 7 such finishes apiece. He is in fierce contention with Novak Djokovic though, the Serb who just claimed the Shanghai title having the edge in the battle.
